A Weekend at Friend’s: Like Mommie wanna-be
Kids tend to imitate parents’ actions. Girls tend to imitate Mommies as boys tend to imitate Daddies. As for BabyShasha, she loves grooming, especially in getting her hair done.
BabyShasha has her own hair brush. Lately, I use a normal small comb for her. She could sit quietly and smile at her own reflection in the mirror when I combed her hair.
When I was not looking, she would reach for my big, heavy hair brush, ran to the bed, sat down properly and started combing her hair… Oh dear! My only fear was that she might hit her head with that heavy brush, what more if her hair got entangled with it. Sigh…!

A Weekend at Friend’s: Here comes the syringe
Intelligent as a baby can be, BabyShasha would start squirming, whining, yelling, crying, and whatever comes under the sun of “baby tantrum”, when she saw me holding a syringe (with or without medicine).
She could see the small syringe in my hand from far and read my mind of what I would be doing next. Regardless whether she was weak or exhausted, she really had strength when it comes to “fighting ‘til the end”…
During the struggle of injecting the medicine into her mouth, I couldn’t help laughing madly seeing how funny her act was with her bum popping up and down in constant movement of random steps. I guess I’ve startled BabyShasha with my laughter, since she stared blankly at me thinking that I must have gone “nuttz”!
No matter how tired or lack-of-sleep I might have felt, I could still amuse myself in such dire situation. It’s quite hard for me to get angry at my baby, that’s for sure. If I didn’t laugh or find it amusing, I might become glum seeing how “torturous” it is for a baby to take quite a number of medicines in one go. Hhmm…

A Weekend at Friend’s: Playing Miss Meddler
As the title says, BabyShasha did meddle in adult’s conversation when the chat got louder and more exciting to her little ears. She would “talk” her lungs out in her own language, which to us sounded more like a nuisance rather than a person trying to make a conversation.
I would eat or drink while carrying BabyShasha at most time when I feel hungry. Instead of voicing out, BabyShasha would open her mouth widely beside my face. Sometimes, I didn’t notice the gawking mouth, because when the food (or drink) went into my mouth instead of hers, she would close back her mouth and act as if nothing happened. It took me a few times to notice from the corner of my eyes, especially when my friend told me about it. Yet, sometimes she did that to tease me (because when I fed her my food, she would turn around or shake her head)! Hhmm…

A Weekend at Friend’s: “Let’s go out, Mommie!”
Ever since I bought her a new pair of sandals, BabyShasha had an intuition that “when Mommie get dressed, I get to walk out with my new shoes”. She did just as she thought – took her sandals from the bag, tried to wear them or just showed them to me, trying to tell me that she was ready to go out.
Sometimes, BabyShasha would kidnap the shoes to the living room, play with them, and make me hunt down one missing side of the two. Sigh…

A Weekend at Friend’s: Bullying Mommie to the max
BabyShasha hardly let me out of her sight. She preferred to be carried around despite my possible conditions of being exhausted, sleepy, sweaty and even hungry.
The worst case was not letting me brush my teeth. At times, I had to carry her while brushing my teeth. I leave that to your imagination of the “know-how”.
It didn’t end there. BabyShasha would walk to the bathroom door, knock on the door, and even push open the door (I had to leave the door not fully closed in case of emergency) while I was taking my shower! Arghhhh...!!

A Weekend at Friend’s: Un-feed the poor (a.k.a. the fish)
My friend had a little red pet fish that was kept in a glass-bowl aquarium. Below the aquarium, there was some stock of food (dried food such as noodles, baby food, etc). Never had I thought that there were 2 containers of fish food along with the stock of food.
As if having an “eye of a hawk’s”, BabyShasha discovered the fish food, and for some reason she preferred to play with that. She would “steal” the fish food every time she visited the place, causing my friend to wonder where the fish food had “walked to”… Sigh!

A Weekend at Friend’s: The kitchen helper
As I was helping around in the kitchen, BabyShasha helped along by ransacking some drawers full of plastic containers. One small, yellow Tupperware container attracted her attention, which she brought it from the drawer to the rug near the kitchen sink where I was standing.
She sat on the rug (as how she learnt at home to sit on a rug or carpet to play), and carefully playing with the little container. She opened the container lid, put the lid back, tested the sound of the container (by patting the material), and tested the weight of the container (by flapping the lid and shaking the container).
BabyShasha could manage to occupy her time playing with the container as long as Mommie was there. The moment I came out from the kitchen, she simply left the “scene” with the evidence of her “crime” – the little, yellow container on the kitchen rug.

A Weekend at Friend’s: The deep thought of the night
Being cranky to sleep is normal for most babies. The same goes to BabyShasha, in her quest to wrestle between being awake and having deep slumber. Among her methods to get herself asleep are by rotating herself on the bed, sucking on her favourite “pacifier”, getting up in a sitting position to practice chatting and climbing on Mommie to get across the bed.
Since the new bed was beside the bedroom window, BabyShasha could manage to play peek-a-boo with the curtain. The outside lighting was bright enough to enthral BabyShasha’s attention for about 10 minutes… the longest time I’ve ever seen her focusing on something.
The way she stared out the window was like having such deep thoughts, as if she had a real big concern in her little pondering mind. At that point of time, I thought, “Wow! Such a grown kid I have now…” BabyShasha really looked so matured in this pose, I tell ya!

A Weekend at Friend’s: The discovery of the day
BabyShasha caught me in action, inserting her stack of dirty clothes into the front-loading washing machine. As how she was taught since age 4 months old, BabyShasha thought that it was her duty to close the widely-opened washing machine lid, trapping me along the way.
Imagine… every time I turned my back to the lid, she would close the lid, and when I turned back to insert more clothes, I had to open the lid. Even when I was still holding on to the lid, she pressed the lid to close it regardless whether I had my hand in the machine or not.
Once the washing machine was set to wash its contents, BabyShasha stood still, in shock of what she saw… The machine was making noise, spraying some water in it, tossing the clothes and repeated the whole sequence every few seconds. She could see this clearly since the transparent lid of the machine was at her eye level.
It took BabyShasha a while to step out from the “trance”… at least until she noticed that Mommie was not around her anymore. Ever since the discovery, I could catch her standing hypnotised in front of the washing machine…

A Weekend at Friend’s: The treasure hunt
I brought BabyShasha to my friend’s house – a homely, fully-furnished apartment – for the weekend. BabyShasha just recovered from fever, and the running-nose she still had didn’t deter her quest for adventure to fulfil her curiosity…
BabyShasha, who has learnt how to climb up and down the bed, showed off her skill with her bum pointing everywhere upwards when she was climbing up and down the sofa. Upon reaching the seat, she sat down comfortably and clapped her hands with a gleam on her face to mark her victory.
Playing around the sofa and giving me some heart-thumping moments (when she almost slipped down from standing at the edge of the sofa), BabyShasha found some treasure at a place I’d never imagined… a pack of remote controls hidden at a dusty corner beside the 29-inch TV.
Oh dear! That’s yellow alarm to me! Immediately, I took the remote controls away from her and put them higher than her reach – on top of the TV. Phew!

Seeing Myself Staring Back at Me in BabyShasha's Eyes
These few days, my baby (BabyShasha) has a new skill, which challenges her bravery and Mommie's worry. She could climb the waist-height drawers and almost-chest-height cupboard from our divan bed. She would climb on the drawers, turn her position so that she would sit with her legs dangling to the side, and happily clap her hands...
Other than this "domestic" act, BabyShasha recently had some bruises on her lips and cheeks. The lips bruise was due to her reverse walking towards her teacher's lap, and the moment she landed her bum on that lap, she was bounced back to the floor with her face down. The teacher is chubby, thus the impact (of anything) "thrown" on her would be "very bouncy". Hhmm... :-?
The bruise on her fair, left cheek was the result of a chasing game with a friend her age at the nursery. She banged onto the wall and got herself a souvenir kiss from the wall on her cheek. :-S
Seeing all these with a drumming heart, I wonder if I have a "boy" or a "girl"... Pondering on the situation for some time, I remember the days when I was as "brave" as her.
Looking back to the year when I was in Form 3, I used to climb the roof of our school corridor to enter our classes on the 1st floor of the building block. We had our bags trapped in the classrooms, since the janitor locked the gate to the 1st floor. We had band practice that day, thus we were the only humans left behind in the school compound.
After throwing all the bags down from the upper level, I started to wonder how to come down. It's easy to climb up, but coming down? Hhmm... :-?
With only experiences in climbing down from windows, I tried some ways to climb down from the roof. I over-estimated my strength in supporting my body-weight using my hands, thus I fell to the ground from the corridor roof. None of my gang member could catch me when I fell...
I fell on my bum, hitting hard on the coxic bone (the tail bone) and the pain stroke up along my backbone. No visible bruises, other than a bit of bleeding in my mouth due to the forced bite during the fall.
To me (then), it was a heroic thing I could manage to do for my pack of band-girls. Yeah, right...! And until today, my mum doesn't have a clue about it.
Aha!! Which means, I better watch out for BabyShasha's little pranks such as this! She would never inform me neither! Hhmm... :-?
Wondering if the band gang remembers this event...,

BabyShasha's Latest Interests
Here are some games or activities that interest BabyShasha in her daily interaction...
1. When MommieSha sits still at one place (on the floor or on the mat), BabyShasha would crawl or walk around and around MommieSha (like merry-go-round) until she's tired, gives up and look for other things to play with.
2. BabyShasha would pick up a small, white teddy bear from her soft-toys collection, carry it around the house and talking to it in her cute voice and intonation, as if talking to a small baby.
3. During the Annual Dinner, BabyShasha prefers younger baby boys than older baby boys (older than her). Hhmm... makes me wonder. :-?
4. Kiss baby photos in magazine. Yet, she is a bit picky on choosing baby photos for kisses, which I'm yet to find out.
5. Play "carrying hand-bag" with hanger.
6. BabyShasha enters the kitchen, opens the grocery stock cupboard, takes the curry flavoured Maggie Mee pack and parade it around the house. In other words, she kidnaps Mommie's Curry Maggie Mee pack and shows off to everybody...
7. BabyShasha loves to slide down (repetitively) the pillow on the bed that is leaning agains the cot next to it.
8. Play "rugby" with MommieSha... (I leave that to your wildest imagination ;-D Hahaha...!!)
I believe there are more... Will write again once I get a new list.

MommieSha's Company Annual Dinner
MommieSha brought BabyShasha along for the company annual dinner, held at Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 8th December 2006.
It was a rainy night and most major roads were at stand still due to traffic congestion. Unbelievably, BabyShasha were well-behaved throughout the journey to the venue.
Dressed up nicely in white spaghetti-strip, with 2 little pony-tails propping up from her head, BabyShasha captured many hearts during the event. Quite a number of compliments were received saying that she's very well-behaved etc... yet they didn't see the pranks little Sha made when they were off from her sight!
"Mommie... What are we doing here? Why so many people here? Is there food for me too? And who is this lady beside me taking my picture here?" Those must be the thoughts of my little one once we were seated at our table.
In between dishes, MommieSha had to carry BabyShasha away from the table and let her move around leaving footprints everywhere...
It's not easy to capture BabyShasha's photo when she already sets her mind to "move around" and be "mobile"... Not even a good photographer could capture her photo during the prank.
Err... I thought BabyShasha was smiling at this time. I guess I smiled too much on behalf of both :-S
Suddenly the photographer-of-the-night turned to capture our photo without any of us getting ready for it. Yet, BabyShasha still looked marvellously cute in this picture...
A photo with AuntyLouise, right before BabyShasha planned a huge prank in the car throughout the whole journey home...!

Talking in Her Sleep...
Last night, I had some difficulty in sleeping... as usual a mother would be, especially when sleeping with the little one.
BabyShasha was having some aggressive movements in her sleep by the time I retreated beside her. She had udden turning to the left and another sudden turning to the right as if playing a fighting game in her sleep.
She even had loud snores during one of her side poses. Altough it might be disturbing, it did sound kinda cute coming from a cute face... Hehehe!!
At one point of time, I turned my back on her thinking that she would be fine sleeping on her own side of bed... when suddenly I heard a short, loud "Chak?!!" from my back.
I was startled and with eyes wide opened I slowly turned back thinking that I would find BabyShasha having her eyes opened with wide grin washed over her gleamy face...
Instead, she was deeply sound asleep!! No movement, no smile, no opened eyes!!
OK... that is unbelievably creepy, dude... :-S

BabyShasha (a.k.a. Shakira) Busy at Work
As I was digging through my backup files, I noticed this set of photos taken on 13th October 2006. It was the day I brought BabyShasha to office after her 12-month-old vaccination.
With her left arm plastered like an injured army, BabyShasha looked so eager and serious to "work" on my desktop. Have a look at how BabyShasha typed on the keyboard with her eyes on the monitor..., and having a milk bottle instead of a mug of coffee beside the keyboard. Hhmm... :-?
The world's most serious programmer... newly hired by DalasTech. See how serious she looks, with an injured arm, she still bravely refuse to be absent from her first (and last) day in our office. "All I need is a bottle full of milk beside me while I'm working..." Yeah, right! :-S
Shakira, as how she is known in DalasTech, typing some code so seriously. She does have a pose of a keyboardist... I mean, someone who would work on a keyboard. :-?
"What are you looking, huh, Uncle Richard? Never seen a baby working on computer before? :-p" Duhh... :-?
"Wait, Mommie! I forgot one more code...," said Shakira as she typed the last letter of her long code in B (baby) language.
Enjoy having a company of a little DalasTech member,

"What are you looking, huh, Uncle Richard? Never seen a baby working on computer before? :-p" Duhh... :-?
"Wait, Mommie! I forgot one more code...," said Shakira as she typed the last letter of her long code in B (baby) language.Enjoy having a company of a little DalasTech member,

BabyShasha in Action... at Bangkok
We didn't get much chance to capture photos at the interesting places we went to, since most of our time spent on food-hunting and shopping. Yet, there are some photos taken of BabyShasha in action, in the hotel and airport mostly.
Photos taken between 4th November to 7th November 2006...
See her right hand, there? BabyShasha's checking her nipple... can you believe that? ;-) Hehehe...!! :-D
Sometimes, her tired-look pose looks so photogenic. Ah well... I guess every mom says that, huh? ;-)
"These people ah... taking photos like mad. When are we starting off la?!" Such a bored-of-waiting look BabyShasha has here.
BabyShasha and a very tired MommieSha at the Grand Palace, Bangkok. This picture was taken moments before BabyShasha slept off...
Back where we belong... I felt like I was back in my hometown - we live right beside a Thai Wat... and coincidently our ancestors were from Thai! No wonder Thai people speak Thai with me, and they debated so much saying that I'm a Thai! Hhmm...
BabyShasha playing hard-to-catch. Can't even take a good decent photo with this impatient big baby. Hmph! :-S

I Rest My Case...
BabyShasha may not be able to talk yet, but she surely can talk back!
Everytime I try to stop her from doing something that could harm her, or even start to tell her why she should not do something that she's doing (in other words, babble), BabyShasha would understand it as a cue to debate back and make her stand. Talk about future "loyar buruk"... Hhmm...
At one point, when she knows that she is scolded, she would wail or pretend to cry... Talk about pampered baby... Hhmm...
Sometimes when she would like to make a statement that she's "the boss", she would throw things down from the bed without any warning, but with a straight face as if she's innocent.
All these after she turns 1 year old. I wonder how this year would be until she reaches "Terrible Two". Hhmm...
Enjoy arguments with BabyShasha since she can't talk out her debate yet hahaha...,

At Various Poses
The following are photos of BabyShasha, taken for the past few months. These are not in chronological order.
BabyShasha, the kitchen helper..., specialised in opening and closing the drawers, and try to reach whatever possible in the drawers. "Not sure why I always get a pack of dried chillies instead of anything else! :-S"
I can also help in folding clothes, ust put me amongst your clothes. But be aware! You might not be able to find me among the clothes!
I love books... especially this big, colourful one. I wonder what the book is trying to tell me... Hhmm...
The bandana makes me goes banana... Can't help it, I had to tear it off my head. This Java-style bandana only lasted long enough to capture this act! Hehehe...

I Can Walk! I Can Climb Down the Bed!
Mommie marked this date, 11 days after my 1st birthday (21st October 2006), as the day I can properly stand on my own without support, and walk more than three steps forward. From this date onwards, I rarely crawl around anymore. All I want to do is walk... walk...
Mommie also marked this date, 29th October 2006, as the day I can independently climb down from Mommie's queen-sized divan bed. Hhmm... I still need to figure out how to climb up after getting my bum down, though. :-? Mommie only taught me to climb down! :-S

My First Murder
AbbuMama wanted to treat me and Mommie at Colonial Times, a good North Indian restaurant in The Curve shopping mall. (He always treat me because he sometimes misses me a lot.)
During dinner, I was very cranky and wanted to walk.., so AbbuMama took me around for a walk and he had to bear the small steps I was taking along the way.
As I was practising my walk I saw a fluttering bug on the pavement. I shouted in excitement, "Ta! Ta! Ta!" and pointed my finger towards the bug, trying to voice out my excitement of seeing something blocking my pathway... AbbuMama looked down and said, "It’s a bug, let’s go... continue walking," and without having any chance to say anything, I stomped the bug with my foot.
It's not my fault... I was so excited and the bug was on the way. (Imagine me saying this with an angelic look, and my shadow behind has a tail and horns on it. ) ;-)
The bug no longer moved and it looked totally squashed out of its original shape. :-S
AbbuMama came back to Mommie and told her what happened. Mommie, with a cunning smile, said "Gugu’s first murder."

One Year Development...
Right after her birthday, BabyShasha shows quite a number of new skills and developments. Some are a pain in the ass, some are helplessly funny. Check them out!
1. New hobby of ransacking the cupboards. She could manage to open the cupboards, take out every object reachable for her, throw the objects down or take them in her hands, and close the cupboards.
2. Recognising the show on TV. Every evening upon reaching home from nursery, I would switch on Playhouse Disney (Astro Channel 63) for her to watch. By now, she could recognise the songs and faces from Out of The Box, Global Gopher, The Clay and Rolie Polie Olie.
She also tries to "grab" the Playhouse Disney logo that appears at the bottom left corner of the TV... since the colour is so vibrant and the position of the logo looks as if it's blocking part of the screen!
3. BabyShasha wants to play with her new scooter, but she's always in the walker, especially during dinner. Thus, she manages to "play" with her scooter from her walker - she holds the seat handle of the scooter and pushes/pulls the scooter while moving in her walker. She does this around the house, from one corner to the other.

4. Once in a while, we could catch her posing with her hand holding her chin... the "I wonder..." look.
5. Waving her hand to say "good-bye"... She does it the moment Mommie takes her from the nursery teacher's arms, impatiently wants to go home it seems.
6. The boogey dance. BabyShasha would practice her balancing act when Mommie is nearby. She would stand up without support, get her balance right, clap her hands, followed by shaking her bum with hands wiggling at waist level.
7. Other than clapping her hands and boogey dance, BabyShasha could open and close both her hands as how our traditional kid's song goes "Chak cekup udang gamit..."
8. Whatever BabyShasha finds and picks up, she would show it to Mommie or anyone around her.
9. Opening Mommie's clothes in search of her favourite suckers? If she can't find it, she would simply "bite" from outside the clothes. The surprising thing is, it hits the right spot! Hhmm...
10. Calling everyone from Mommie's handphone speed dial list. In return, Mommie gets calls saying, "Did you miscall me?" "Huh? That must be BabyShasha...," is the only answer Mommie could give.
11. Understanding a few instructions and responding to them. One of the instructions is "Kissy, kissy?" and BabyShasha would plant a kiss on the cheek of the person who asked for it. Her kiss is normally with her mouth opened. If you're lucky, she would give a "wet kiss" - a kiss with a wet licky!!
Another instruction is "Sleep on my shoulder?" BabyShasha would put her head down on the shoulder of the person who is carrying her, looking pampered and pretending to sleep...
Tell her, "High five!" and she would put up her hand to pat with ours.
12. Uttering some words to indicate something. Words such as "Ma mam," which means 'hungry', and "Ah ta!?" which is normally shouted out to ask 'where are you?'
I still remember her first word of communicating "leh!" which she uttered when she asked for milk... and that was one year back! Hhmm...

Happy 1st Birthday, BabyShasha!
BabyShasha's first birthday falls on 10th October 2006. It was a historical day, seeing how she has grown up from a little angel so peaceful in my arms, to a big baby so restless in my reach.
Here are some photos taken on her birthday...

Can't sit quietly even for a decent photo with Mommie...
Birthday girl, Mommie and the cake... with little candles around.
The one-year-old BabyShasha and MommieSha...
BabyShasha's first birthday cake - the blueberry cake.
Another pose from BabyShasha, the birthday girl.
Before and after blowing the candle... and cutting the cake.
Practice walking to mark the day... No care in the world when she gets the chance to walk, doesn't even care to look at the camera.
Pretty in blue... At last, she looks like a big baby girl! Phew!!

Mommie's One Year Old...
BabyShasha turned one year old, yesterday. We planned a simple cake-cutting ceremony and dinner outside. Photos were taken on the day, which will be uploaded in the next blog.
Here are some candid photos taken of BabyShasha on her birthday...
Such a boring morning. BabyShasha supposed to have her morning nap, yet she insisted of forcing her eyes to open. Anxious to cut the cake, but denying the fact that she needed rest.
Eventually, she fell asleep in the most awkward position. One thing about BabyShasha, a little adjustment on her position will wake her up. So, the least Mommie could do is support her head with a bolster.
BabyShasha's first birthday cake - a small, 350 gramme blueberry cake... Just enough for Mommie to finish it off! ;-)
This is a photo of the reflection on a mirror in Braun Buffel outlet at KLCC. BabyShasha admires herself, humming some sounds and trying to reach her "other-self".
"Hhmm... I wonder...," she must have thought. "Mirror, mirror on the wall... Who's the cutest baby of all?"
"Mommie! What are you doing there, Mommie? Can't you see that I'm not in the mood now? Huh?" BabyShasha just woke up from a long nap in Bangsar Shopping Complex, just in time for a nice dinner of Chicken and Mushroom Fettucine at La Bodega...
