Overwhelming Exhaustion

During those nights when BabyShasha and I were both exhausted due to our sicknesses, a funny thing happened beyond my wildest expectation.

As age increase in my life, I noticed that extreme exhaustion makes me sleep in an utmost disgusting way a woman possibly can. Forget about snoring, I’m talking about salivating in sleep.

I was having a heavy dream that caused me to feel much more tired than usual. In the middle of the dream, I realised that in the real world, my mouth was gaping opened and my pillow would definitely be full wet with sweat and saliva. I forced myself to wake up, just to adjust myself into a better position of sleep.

The moment I woke up, I started to reach for the wet spot I believed I’d made. To my great surprise, it was not really the pillow that was wet. It was BabyShasha’s left fist!

Can you believe…? BabyShasha had her fist in my mouth the whole time I was sleeping? She’s very luckily I didn’t close my mouth or bite her hand off in my sleep!

With such a shameful feeling, I slowly wiped her hand with a dry cloth, and slowly put her hand neatly at her side. Phew! She’s still snoring in her slumber… So, I turned my back on her, and sleep facing the other side.

I remember having a fist in front of my face during my sleep. My partner does that in his sleep. Hhmm… I guess she has that gene in her after all. Yet, I think she was dreaming being a Powerpuff Girl flying in the sky trying to save the world… from the look of it! ;-)

If she reads this story now..., I can imagine her yelling, "Eyuck! Mom..., you're disgusting!! Eeuuu.....!" :-p

You’ve Come a Long Way
(For My Little Angel’s 6 Months Anniversary)

You’ve come a long way…
for the past six months
you’ve achieved a lot
from fully wrapped in blanket
to fully active, yappy and chubby
that not even a tight grip could hold you

You’ve come a long way…
from a featherweight 3.36kg
to a rice-pack weight of 7.45 kg
that I start calling you “rice-pack baby”
since you’ve challenged my strength
lifting you up from the floor mat
and carrying you up the staircases

You’ve come a long way…
from half an arm’s length of 50.5 cm
to a full size of 69 cm
that I can’t put you on my lap
when we’re in the front seat of our car
else you would kick the gear
with such a length

You’ve come a long way…
from knowing only to cry for milk
to grabbing my shirt and lift it up
search anxiously for milk
as if you’ve been starving for months
yet left me in shame
when you turned around after a few sips
while your hands still holding on to the shirt

You’ve come a long way…
from merely smelling to recognise me
to running around in your walker
looking for me all over the house
knowing just where to catch me
hidden among those walls

You’ve come a long way…
from merely a cough or a sneeze
to a wheeze in your breathing
and a vomit of phlegm in the middle of the night
that hopefully ended with the treatment you just had
the treatment that made you so terrified
for a long 40 minutes

You’ve come along way…
a long way to become a full blown baby
and I really mean “full blown”
when you would start to understand real pain
and what you would gain
understand the real struggle
to be a toddler in the next stage

Six months is just start
wait ‘til you can crawl
walk and run
hop and jump
skip and trip
talk and respond
love and be loved
make friends and know who are friends
it’s indeed a long more way to go…

Along that long way
I’ll be watching you
and be with you
as long as it takes
as long as you need me to

Love you forever more,

Blogging Temporary at Pause...

MommieSha has been quite quiet lately. Just to inform readers that we're busy monitoring BabyShasha of further wheezing cases and midnight coughs that would lead to serious bronchitis case.

Since there are some asthmatic cases in our family, MommieSha is under great caution to avoid BabyShasha's symptoms to get any worse.

Last two days has brought tears to MommieSha’s eyes seeing BabyShasha struggled for dear life out of fear during nebuliser treatment. She was so fearful that she struggled so much during the 40 minutes session, even though she was half dosed and full exhausted.

Such a fighter BabyShasha is which makes MommieSha very proud. Yet at the same time, MommieSha feels very sad seeing a hyperactive baby such as BabyShasha has to go through such a treatment.

More news on BabyShasha’s health will be blogged for readers’ viewing.

At the moment, MommieSha has to take rest along with BabyShasha, since she too is having a bad viral infection in her throat that weakens her body on and off.

Time to recuperate… MommieSha signing out!

Nicknames

Today, let’s talk about my long list of nicknames… Since I was born cute and cuddly, quite a number of people around me have their own ideas of calling me. See how much I’ve inspired them to name me. ;-)

Mommie has the most names for me. She has new names for me almost every week. She sometimes even has a song for the nicknames. Among of Mommie’s nicknames for me that I can remember:
1. Erin
2. Erina
3. Little Angel
4. Fasha
5. Sha-yang
6. Bucuk-bucuk Mommie
7. Minachi Chondatoray

8. Chubby Cheeks
9. Naughty Kitten
10. Sweet Pea
11. Ayam Bayam – Chicken Spinach

Mommie’s office gang has different names for me too. For example, Tito Rene calls me Shania and Uncle Arull calls me Shakira. Most of the time, I hear Uncle Arull calls me Ginger Boy! But both of them agreed that I’m the Little Nagger, the small version of the “Nagger” (my Mommie). For those who can’t remember my long, beautiful name, they would just call me Shasha or Sha Junior.

In the nursery, I am known as Farisha. Once in a while I heard them call out Pipi Tembam, which means “chubby cheeks”.

Dr Yus (Mom’s good friend) calls me by my middle name, Shazrina. As far as I know, she’s the only one who calls me by that name. It’s actually an altered version of Mommie’s name, Shahrinaz.

UmmiBab (Mommie’s cousin) once called me Baby Chendol. I like that. Makes me sound so cute. ;-) Her sister, UmmiMin, calls me Fasha, like Fasha Sandha the actress. Hhmm… Their mother, GrandAunt Umi calls me Farisha, Pipi Londeh, and Cik Kak. So every time I visit her house, I feel like a grown up sister because she calls me Cik Kak (meaning Miss Elder Sister).

AbbuMama also has a few names for me. When I was born, he called me Kakuna Peel, meaning “very small baby”. Ever since I turned bald, he calls me Boli Gundi, meaning “little bald baby girl”. He still calls me Boli Gundi even though I have so much of silky hair on me now… :-p I thought he wanted to call me Sharmila, don't know what happened to that! It’s time to change my nickname again, AbbuMama… :-p

Love the nicknames; it means they care - BabyShasha

9 am
: Erin doesn’t want to take the pacifier anymore. Partly is because it is a new pacifier with a flatten shape for baby of 3-6 months.
6 pm: Erin is forcing Mommie to play with her the whole day. Mommie teaches Erin to rollover and makes her excited over a rattler. Erin also holds milk bottle for a long time with both palms opened.

31 Dec 2005
5 am: Erin becomes very active and doesn’t want to sleep. Awake for 1 hour.
8 pm: Learn to grasp Mommie’s finger. Erin can balance her sitting on Mommie’s lap (book calls it mini sit-up).

27 Dec 2005
7 pm: Erin does not want to sleep alone. As penalty, she has to watch Mommie cooking from the bouncer. Well behaved on the bouncer.

26 Dec 2005
9 am: Erin bullies Mommie early morning. When Mommie is beside her, she turns and chit chatting with the cartoon design on the cot bed bumper. Mommie is there only to hold her bottle so she would not “kung fu” the teddy bear and bolster.
10 am: Erin keeps on saying “Ogai” to Mommie. It could either mean “Old Guy” or “OK”.

4 pm: Erin’s head is finally shaven. Mommie-Sha can’t help laughing at her new look.

11 Dec 2005
6 pm:
Erin’s head and neck are strong now. No need leaning the head on Mommie’s shoulder anymore, just a slight touch of her chin on Mommie’s shoulder is enough as to learn being brave in making the neck strong. Head totally up!
At 2 months old, Erin can hold her head straight. Mommie noticed when carrying her at noon and Erin lifts her head during evening bath.

10 Dec 2005
10 am: Erin bullies Grand-Aunt Umi singing. The moment she stops singing, Erin would cry. Erin’s favourite song is Auld Lang Syne, it seems.
11 pm: Erin is suddenly too clingy to Mommie lately. Mommie has to sleep beside Erin (on the bed). Else, she would start shouting. Every time Mommie pacify her, Mommie’s the one ends up crying. Mommie almost wished that she could have a year off from work just to be with her!

9 Dec 2005
11 am: Erin has red spots (rashes) all over her body. It could be because of the fogging in Mawar a few days back.

8 Dec 2005

Licky licky everywhere...

Licking an object to understand its texture and material... That's what one of the articles I read said about baby's development at age 3 months onwards. So, in one hand, a Mommie should feel glad that her baby is learning more day by day... but on the other hand, eyerrr... not hygienic, my dear.

First time I noticed her "licky" habit was after a few weeks she noticed her hands. She licked when I didn't see her. She licked when I was holding her and she's leaning over my shoulder. She licked when other people carry her. At that time, she didn't like pacifiers anymore. Seemed that she licked her hand to pacify herself. One thing for sure, the way she licked (and sucked her hand) was the same way she did when she was in my womb!

Mommie's hand was next in her list of lickable objects. She did that when I carried her in front of me, with her facing front. I wouldn't be seeing, as usual, and suddenly I felt some tickly sensation on my hand. Looked at her, and she's happily licking my hand. Hhmm...

Toys... She's quite selective when it comes to licking toys. The first toy she licked was the Froggie. It's actually a very bright coloured pillow of a Froggie face. It was her first and last "bantal busuk". Didn't last long though, just for a month or so.

Mommie's handphone. It's quite heavy, but it's metallic in colour. One of the reasons she likes to lick Mommie's handphone is to understand the material. Yes, honey... It's heavy and hard. Be careful when you put it in your mouth.

Remote control… especially Astro remote control. Nowadays, she just gaa gaa at the remote and tried to grab it. If I don't monitor her carefully, it will end up in her mouth. I would definitely notice it because the channel will suddenly change before the saliva reach the object. Eeeuuuu....

Baby bolster... I almost thought that I've wasted money buying bolster for my baby. She never really liked it or used. Most of the time she would be fighting with the bolster and kicked the bolster off the cot bed. Until recently that she could grab the bolster and lick it.

Of all the things my baby plays with, blanket and wiping cloth are not in the list of licking items. She plays waving-the-blankie (or wipey) instead of licky with them.

Sleepless Night

Almost every month, Erin would have a series of high temperature in the middle of the night. People normally say babies tend to have fever after their injections, but for Erin’s case, it is not after the injection. It happens a week before the appointment for injection! Maybe she wants to grow older and smarter a week earlier than her age, which makes her body heat up with excitement.

Last night was the second night for this round of fever and flu attack. Erin coughed a lot which made her vomit out all her phlegm. At night, I had to change her pyjamas at least twice. Her nose block was not at all helping her situation. She was hungry but she couldn’t suck much, which made her frustrated.

Her sleep was also disturbed, but she didn’t cry much like she used to. Just tossing, turning and whining because of discomfort. Also a few cough here and there in her sleep. As expected, I had to wake up very frequently over night, as frequent as every half an hour.

Quite a number of times Erin kicked me off the bed. Every time I woke up, I checked for her temperature. Her head was becoming warmer time after time. I gave cold compression on and off, when she didn’t budge from her position. If she knew there’s a cloth on her head, she would whine.

At approximately 1AM, I gave another round of cold compression. By the time I came back to place the damp cloth on her forehead, there’s no more space for me to sleep beside her. I had to sleep on the floor, beside the edge of the bed where Erin was lying peacefully.

Knowing that she was in her most comfortable position, I let her be. I knew I had to ensure that she wouldn’t fall from the bed. Even if she fell, she would fall on me. “Let me sleep first before her next wake-up time, then I’ll move her a bit to the centre of the bed.” That’s what I thought.

It took some time for me to wait. Until then, every 10 minutes she would be coughing, but continued sleeping. Every time she coughed, I quickly jumped up to her side and soothed her. At nearly 2AM, I could climb back to my side of the bed, but again she pushed me to the most edge.

At one point of time, I couldn’t stand her blocked nose. I couldn’t give her the nostril drop because she’s asleep. I had to get up and look for Vicks vapour rub and apply on her chest. She sounded a bit relieved.

The drama continued until 6:30AM, when she woke up with very heavy, long coughs, up to extend that she almost vomited out. With eyes half-opened and in such an exhausting state, I had to carry her up and run quickly away from the bed. Instead of vomiting, Erin forced herself to swallow whatever that was she supposed to vomit out. Hhmm…

Only then I noticed her thick green mucus coming out from her nose. Cleaned her up a bit, and put her back to sleep. She’s fully awake now, so she preferred to play goo goo gaa gaa. I let her be because I needed my sleep. I slept off… but just for a while. Like it or not, I had to get up and get ready to work.

Turned to face my side, Erin was dozing off so peacefully. No more coughing. Hhmm… why can’t she sleep like this at night? Just when I need to bring her to the nursery, she’s sleeping so nicely. :-S

Pity my baby. So tired after a long night that she could only get a good sleep at sunrise. By the time she’s asleep, it’s time to wake up. This photo shows her sleeping position after such a tiring night.

Imagine how tired I am now…

My Friend, the Fan

Ever since I was born, I loved to watch the moving, rotating fan. Every time Mommie used to nurse me, she
brought me out to the living room, sat down comfortably on the couch, and held me facing the ceiling fan.

That's why most of the nights during my first 2 months, I made cranky actions forcing Mommie to bring me out to
the living room and nurse me - just because I loved to see the fan while dozing off.

My limit was not just the ceiling fan. I came to know that there are more fans in the house, similar to the
one in the living room. The bedroom wall fan, for example, seemed to interest me as well.

Sometimes I got addicted to seeing the fan. Up to extend that every time I knew that I was nearby a fan, I
would turn my head to face the fan and greeted him. Basically, I just stared at the fan during the first 2 months, until I knew how to smile. By the time I could laugh, I could already "greeted" the fan with some vowels
, "Uh!" and laughed...

These days, I understand more about my loyal friend, the standing fan. He actually blows cold wind through my
soft, silky hair. Really made me feel good and laugh. Such happiness!

Mommie taught me to say "Aaahhh..." whenever the standing fan turned to face us during his rotation. It made
Mommie's voice vibrated. Yet, I find it silly to do that. For me, I could only manage with a short "Ah!"

Once in a while when I feel lonely, especially if I am released to play with the walker on my own, I just go
to my friend, the fan, and telepathically talk to him. He's the only friend who always "stands by" me, and makes me feel good.

April Fool: To Be Tricked or To Have New Tricks?
(Developments in a Day)

April 1st 2006 is the milestone of Erin’s new development skills. Keeping track of her new skills in a day is like writing a whole page of a new day in a diary…

2:00PM – 3:00PM

Picked up Erin from the nursery and headed towards Tesco. While waiting in the car, Erin could stand long enough on the steering wheel (with Mommie’s support) and pretending to drive. At some time, she even tried to throw herself towards the rear mirror to grab the dangling Baby Minnie.

3:00PM – 5:00PM

As Mommie was trying to make her sleep, Erin played with Mommie’s handphone, the Samsung D410C, the sliding type. She excitedly slid the phone on and off! She knew by now that when the phone is on/opened, it would light up and showed her own photo in it.

At one point of time, Erin did double rolling until she reached the edge of the bed. She was actually trying to reach me (crouching beside the bed) the fastest way she could think of! It’s cunning of you, dear… but it’s extremely dangerous, ok?

5:00PM – 6:30PM
We woke up from our nap to continue with our house cleaning and setting up things bought from Tesco. I was sweeping the floor of the entire house, and every time I turned around, I would be seeing Erin laughing at me in her walker. Wherever I went, she would be tagging behind me. If she couldn’t see me, she just knew where to find me and went into deep areas that she never explored, just to search for me. Up to one point, I had to shove her away and she stubbornly didn’t want to listen. Like it or not, I had to lift her (and her walker) up and place her to the new position.

Understanding that her Mommie couldn’t entertain her much, she sought happiness to the pile of Teddy Bears sitting at the corner. It looked more like pleading to the bears to pay attention to her. Or was she staring at the bears, see if they could respond?

After a while learning that even teddy bears couldn’t help her, Erin “walked” into the bedroom and sought happiness from her friend, “the fan”. It was the standing fan, which never let her down giving wind for her to feel and giving excitement for her on moving wheels.

At certain point during this house-cleaning session, Erin showed her new capability in dancing. She basically had some steps choreographed for the “Walker Dance”. Step left right left, move front and launch back…

6:30PM – 7:30PM
After setting things in order, we placed Erin on the bed and get her ready for her bath and next meal. Upon waiting for Mommie, she showed her happiness and excitement by holding her two feet with her two naughty hands… and slowly pulling her toes into her mouth and sucked them! Hhmm… just when Mommie was not looking, eh? Cunning!

Playing tickly-tummy with mouth was one of our favourite past time. After 2 rounds of tickling her tummy and made her laughed, the third time round she knew what to do – tighten or tucked in the tummy!! She understood the effect of the action, and she actually knew how to avoid the effect! Marvellous!

Mommie was kind of excited to make Erin sit and walk faster. So one exercise that was first introduced to her the previous weekend was practiced. She was strong enough to be lifted to sitting position, and followed by the standing position. All we needed to do was to make her hold our fingers, and pull her up.

Overall, Erin is now very much stronger to stand longer, with support from either an adult or a walker.

The Day I Turned Bald

Yesterday I had my first hair cut. Well, it’s just a trim, actually. A bit trimmed above my ears because it tickled my ears so much. A bit trimmed on my jambul (fringe). So no more “helmet-looking” hairstyle for me! Err…, sort of.

This reminds me of the day I turned bald. I just turned 2 months old and it was the last weekend I had with Mommie before I started my first formal day at sleeping school (nursery, that is). Mommie couldn’t stand seeing me so hot and sweaty during most days. She made Daddy shaved my head. The funny thing is that they didn’t know how!

Started early in the morning, Mommie made me half naked, wearing only diapers, thinking that she would give me a bath after shave. Mommie’s job was to hold me tight. Daddy was the “terminator”… I mean, “executor”.

The moment Daddy put down the blade on my head, I turned my head… “Tickly la, Daddy”! Another attempt he tried and I made another movement. Both of these adults tried so many positions (lying down, sitting down, standing up, moving around) and locations (on the dining table, on the bed, on the sofa)… and they could merely manage a few strokes. After some time, I started to cry and made special request for Mommie’s milk. Hehehe… ;-)

Next round – Ting! Ting! Ting! – They tried again… and again I got cranky for milk. I did a mistake of falling asleep after such tiring kung fu sessions. It was already noon by the time I gave up and slept off. That’s when the adults proved to be the experienced ones in life… they shaved my head during my sleep! “Huh! Even I can think of that! Phbt! :-p”

Eventually, the day ended with me totally bald as shown in the photographs here – before shave (on 10th December 2005) and the first look of baldy-me (12th December 2005). It was approximately 4pm, and both Mommie and Daddy surrendered the case. No more baldy-making baby out of me!
